Kunal Kapoor shares his food philosophy
PUNJABI TADKA
I live to eat. My philosophy is eat, drink and be merry! And RIP that cruel diet! Being a Punjabi, our meals at home are full of ghee, butter and spices. But I prefer simple meals. I like home cooked food, especially my mother’s dal, rajma, bhindi (ladyfinger) and gajar ka halwa. Even today, we use only fresh, home-churned butter for cooking. I don’t like too many items on the table. It becomes hard for me to choose. I prefer dal, roti and one vegetable. In non-vegetarian food, I fancy fish and chicken. Mutton is not my cup of tea.
GUJARATI BITES
I enjoy Gujarati food. They add a touch of sweetness in every dish. My sister Reshma is married into a Gujarati household blessed with great cooks. That’s how I developed this taste. My favorites are Gujarati dal, aamras (mango juice), thepla and dhokla. My sister prepares crispy bhindi in a curd gravy garnished with spices.
RAJASTHANI FLAVOURS
Rajasthani food, despite being heavily loaded with ghee, is yummy. Dal batti, churma, gatte ka saag are such examples. When we were shooting for Rang De Basanti, we had camped in Jaipur and Jaisalmer. Chokhi Dhaani Resort is a joint in Jaipur, where guests are welcomed in traditional Rajasthani style. Tea is enjoyed in mud cups, while sitting on a charpoy. The fare served at Rambagh Palace is yummy.
SOUTH SWAAD
During my campus days, I was obsessed with dosas. I’d have it every day. Shiv Sagar or Amar Juice Centre in Juhu were my favourite haunts.
Want Deepika Padukone to play my role in my biopic: Saina Nehwal
Bhopal, Dec 23: Ace shuttler and Olympic Bronze medallist Saina
Nehwal today said that she won't mind a biopic made on her life and

Open, said that if a film or a documentary is made on her then it should
promote badminton.

"I think people are already aware of whatever is going on in my life. If
a movie comes it should be like sports. It should promote badminton and
not me," bronze-medal winner in 2012 London Games, Saina, who was in
the city to receive a cash reward of 50 lakh Rupees by Madhya Pradesh
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in an awards function, said.
"So far, films like 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' and 'Mary Kom' have been made.
But badminton is a technique game and for making a film on it one has to
learn its techniques also," she added.
Asked who would she like to play the protagonist's role, she said,
"Actress Deepika Padukone is fit to play her role as she is also a good
badminton player," adding, she would also like to see superstar Shah
Rukh Khan as the hero in the film.
Saina also predicted that India may get two medals in Rio Olympics to be
held in 2016. "PV Sindhu is playing good and in the coming Olympic
(Rio-2016) India's Women players may get two medals," Saina added.
Want Deepika to play my role: Saina
Deepika with tennis superstar Roger Federer recently
Responding to a question regarding her decision to be coached by Vimal
Kumar instead of Pullela Gopichand, she said, "It was an urgent
requirement as Gopi Chand (her former coach) was unable to spare much
time for me and I am unable to perform well also. My new coach, Vimal
Kumar is giving me lot of time and my performance too has improved."
Saina said that she was not facing much problem in shuttling between
Hyderabad and Bangalore as she was aware that for taking training with
Vimal Kumar she has to travel to Karnataka's capital. "I have taken this
decision after weighing all the pros and cons," she added.
To another query, she said that at present she is focused on
international events as there is a lot of time left for the Rio
Olympics.
Referring to top seed Chinese player Li Xuerui, and others Shixian Wang
and Wang Yihan, Saina said, "They are challenge for her. At present
nobody is in a position to challenge them, but my record against them
has improved a lot. I have defeated Chinese players number of times
recently."
