Mental health workers are praising Deepika for speaking out about her battle with depression

Mental health workers are praising Bollywood star Deepika Padukone on Thursday for speaking out about her battle with depression.

Ms Padukone, one of India's most popular film stars, said it had been "a struggle to wake up" during a period of suffering last year, which led her to seek help and eventually take medication.

"There were days when I would feel okay, but at times, within a day, there was a roller-coaster of feelings. Finally, I accepted my condition," she said

Ms Padukone said people struggled to understand her predicament when she was outwardly so successful. The 29-year-old star of "Chennai Express" said she was now working on a plan to create awareness about depression and anxiety, which would soon be unveiled. It's not about what you have or don't have. People talk about physical fitness, but mental health is equally important," she said. "I see people suffering, and their families feel a sense of shame about it, which doesn't help."

Professor Vikram Patel, of the Public Health Foundation of India, said he was pleased Padukone had "shown the courage" to talk openly about her condition.

"It's extremely good news that someone who's extremely popular in the public eye has come out and spoken about a health issue that's traditionally stigmatised," he said.

The country's first mental health policy last year was introduced in parliament last year and is awaiting approval.

Adda time for Ebar Shabor team,Film promotions are a necessity now, says Amitabh Bachchan

Film promotions are a necessity now, says Amitabh Bachchan

Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who is currently busy promoting his forthcoming film 'Shamitabh', believes promotions are a must now. Directed by R Balki, 'Shamitabh' will release on February 6.

Amitabh Bachchan
"Promotions deprive you of your self consciousness. It does not give you a chance to be so.. much as we may like to be obsessed with the temperament. It is a necessity now, a must, a budgeted must and so we do it," the 72-year-old posted on his official blog srbachchan.tumblr.com.

He further added, "I wonder often who really is the true benefactor of these promotions ... for if the film is weak and disliked by the audience, surely any amount of glorification pre or post would not ever enhance the box office. Would it?"

Nevertheless, he still does everything to glorify his forthcoming films. "Here we are artists of a different generation a different league, a different age, succumbing to the lured charm of a million interviews, appearances and presence on reality shows, trying as best we could what may be the right equation to get everyone in the entire universe to come and see our film," he wrote.

Amitabh, who will also be seen in films like 'Wazir' and 'Piku' this year, says there were hardly any promotions required earlier.

"My colleagues of yore have shown no interest in these shenanigans, and they may be right. It was never needed in their times, but I guess my category has been through a drastic change and therefore it compels me to do what I never did before and do what I am required to do now," he shared.

"So apart from some of these appearances on shows and ceremonies, there is this trip to out stations to Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore all in the realm of 'perhaps'," he added.
